CNT to boycott events on National Education Day

BHAKTAPUR, August 31

Confederation of Nepalese Teachers (CNT), an umbrella organization of teachers associated with various teachers’ organization and unions today decided to boycott government programmes to be held on International Literacy Day and National Education Day.Every year, International Literacy Day and National Education Day is celebrated on Bhadra 22 (September 8).

The teachers affiliated to various unions have been staging various protest programmes across the country since few weeks demanding resignation of Education Minister Chitra Lekha Yadav for failing to implement past agreements. Agitating teachers today staged sit-in protest in front of the Department of Education (DoE) from 9 am to 3 pm halting all regular works of the office.

The Confederation of Nepalese Teachers had earlier staged sit-in in front of district education offices across the country demanding implementation of past agreements reached with them. They have accused the government of not paying heed to their concerns

Formation of National Education Commission, amendment to the Education Act and Regulation, right to further education for students from technical and vocation stream, allowance for teachers working in remote areas, as well as school uniform allowance for teachers are some of the demands of the CNT.
