CIAA seeks people's help to arrest Mahat and Dhakal
KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has appealed to the mass to inform the whereabouts of Lumba Dhwoj Mahat and Umesh Prasad Dhakal who are accused of embezzling revenue.
Mahat, a permanent resident of Hariaun VDC-9 in Sarlahi and Dhakal, a permanent resident of Palung VDC-5 in Makawanpur were the members of the Tax Settlement Commission, along with Director General of the Inland Revenue Department Chudamani Sharma, formed by the government in 2015.
Mahat and Dhakal are on the run ever since they were directed to be present before the CIAA for their alleged role in the exemption of huge taxes of big business for mutual benefits. However, Sharma was arrested on June 2, 2017 and is still in the custody of the anti graft body.
The anti graft body has also announced a reward for those providing any information about the duo and helping it find out their whereabouts.
The CIAA has, in case of anyone having any information that may help in its search operation for the two, requested to contact at toll free telephone number 107 and report about the accused or inform the nearby police office.
This is perhaps the first time that the CIAA has sought help from the public to apprehend the accused.
The Tax Settlement Commission was dissolved after submitting its report in December, 2015.
