Conflict affecting children, says Bista
Kathmandu, August 20:
Vice chairman of council of ministers and the chairman of the Children’s Day Celebration main committee Kirti Nidhi Bista today hoisted the national and the Nepal Children’s Organisation flags to mark the 78th birthday of Queen Mother Ratna and the 41st National Children’s Day. “The ongoing conflict is affecting psychology of the children,” Bista said, adding that steps taken for the welfare of the children are not adequate and that all concerned bodies and civil society should address this issue and think about the country’s future. Durga Shrestha, minister for women and children, said children are deprived from fundamental rights. She added the government is working towards bringing special programme to address the conflict affected children. Every suggestion for the welfare of the children would be taken into consideration, she said.
Meanwhile, Children for Children, Hawkers Child Club also celebrated Children’s Day by staging a drama and reciting poetry related to their life and activities today. Subash Katuwal of the club said: “Many programmes for children are introduced every year, but our opinions are never considered while making the programmes.”
