Consensus, collaboration and unity beauty of democracy, says PM Koirala
KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushil Koirala said that consensus, collaboration and unity were the beauties of democracy.
At a discussion programme with Nepali Congress (NC) lawmakers from the Tarai region this afternoon, Koirala, who is also the President of the NC, urged all agitating sides to come for talks.
He said that the country and people are greater than the political parties.
Koirala said that he was active to incorporate aspirations and sentiments of all castes and communities in the new constitution.
The Prime Minister expressed sadness saying that his frequent calls to the agitating parties for talks were neglected.
On the occasion, top leaders of the party expressed their views over the amendment proposal in the Constitution Bill and the ways to end the latest political stalemate.
Likewise, NC senior leader Sher Bahaur Deuba said that all should move ahead as per the wish of majority of the people in a democracy.
He further said that the acts of fulfilling personal and partisan interests would not institutionalise democracy.
Stating that rights of others persons should not be snatched while ensuring their own, leader Deuba said that the new constitution would be promulgated through the Constituent Assembly (CA) addressing the aspirations of the people.
After the meeting, NC Vice-President Ram Chandra Poudel said that the new constitution would be promulgated by finalising the disputed issues through discussion.
He said that the party would hold serious discussion with Madhesi Front and other parties soon.
Talking to media persons after the meeting, NC General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula said that discussions with the Madhes-based political parties will be held soon.
He said that the new constitution could not be promulgated without settling the Tarai problems.
