On Constitution Day, PM stresses Constitution amendment

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal stated that the Constitution can mature only after timely amendments to cater to needs of the people.

Speaking at a special programme organised on the occasion of Constitution Day at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel, PM Dahal said that the Constitution must be open to amendments as the Madhes-based communities are still dissatisfied with the existing one.

Also, he informed that the government was active towards holding elections at all three tiers including local, provincial and federal levels and would soon announce the dates for them.

On the occasion, PM Dahal congratulated everyone as the nation marked the first anniversary of achieving the decades-long dream of having a people-written Constitution.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Chief Justice Sushila Karki, Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar, deputy prime ministers, ministers, high-ranking government officials, chiefs of diplomatic missions here, among others were present at the function.

An army helicopter had dropped flower petals over the venue followed by march-pasts by Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force. Other organisations had also carried out cultural processions.

Players from the National Sports Council had displayed various performances in the event.
