CC picks Ghimire for chief of anti-graft body

Kathmandu, September 5

The Constitutional Council today nominated Acting Chief Commissioner of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Nabin Kumar Ghimire for appointment as chief commissioner of the anti-graft body, ending months of uncertainty.

Deputy Speaker Shiv Maya Tumbhahapmhe, who was in attendance today, said the CC took the decision unanimously. She said the CC had listed recommendation of the members and chief of National Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission as one of the agenda, but did not discuss it due to lack of time.

Ghimire assumed the duty of Acting Chief Commissioner of CIAA in February when the incumbent Chief Commissioner Deep Basnyat retired from service on age ground.

Ghimire’s nomination will have to be confirmed by the Parliamentary Hearing Committee.  The PHC calls for complaints, if any, against the nominees for constitutional post holders before it begins hearing,  which normally starts after 10 days from the date the parliamentary panel issues notice calling for complaints.

Ghimire was appointed as a commissioner of the CIAA in March 2015, two years after he retired from government service. Ghimire was the home secretary when he retired in 2013.

Ghimire, a resident of Kathmandu, holds Master’s Degree in Public Administration.
