Constitutional Council recommends Joshee as Chief Justice
KATHMANDU: The meeting of the Constitutional Council held on Tuesday recommended Acting Chief Justice Deepak Raj Joshee to the post of Chief Justice.
The post of Chief Justice has been lying vacant since the sacking of CJ Gopal Prasad Parajuli on March 14, 2018.
As per constitutional provision, Joshee will face the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee. He would be appointed as CJ after the Committee approves his name.
As per Article 284 of the Constitution of Nepal, the Constitutional Council recommends the name of the chiefs and members of the constitutional bodies.
The Constitutional Council consists of the Prime Minister as the chair, House Speaker, Chairman of the National Assembly, leader of the opposition party in the Legislature-Parliament, and Deputy Speaker of the Legislature-Parliament as its members.
