Consultancy owner held for swindling 20 youths of Rs 15m

KATHMANDU: Police on Wednesday reportedly arrested a man who swindled Rs 15 million out of 20 youths by promising to send them in foreign destinations in lucrative jobs.

The arrested has been identified as Ganesh Dhakal (34) of Palpa district, proprietor of Putalisadak-based Gates Consultancy.

According to Metropolitan Crime Division (MCD) spokesperson Narendra Prasad Upreti, a team deployed from the division arrested Dhakal after receiving a complaint from Avash Khanal.  Khanal, a resident of Suryabinayak Municipality in Bhaktapur lodged the complaint saying that Dhakal had collected Rs 700,000 from him promising to send him to Canada in a lucrative job.

However, when Khanal asked for the refund, Dhakal went out of contact after handing him a cheque that later bounced.

Spokesperson Uperti shared that further investigations have been initiated against Dhakal on the charge of fraud and banking offence.
