Cops seize smuggled medical drugs

Kathmandu, August 12:

A police team from the Narcotic Drug Control Law Enforcement Unit (NDCLEU), New Baneshwor, yesterday seized 62,400 ampoules of medical drugs from different parts of the Valley. The NDCLEU arrested three persons for possessing the illegally-imported drugs.

The police arrested Purushottam Pandey, 42, and his wife Sita Mijar, of Bhaktapur, with 31,500 ampoules of diazepam and 33,500 ampoules of buphronphine. The couple had stored the drugs in a rented room in Kirtipur, the police said.

The police held Mohammad Ali Akhtar, 37, with 27,109 ampoules of diazepam and 109 ampoules of buphrophine from his rented room at Gairitol, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-3. “The seizures were made after a long probe and surveillance,” DSP at the NDCLEU, Bikash Khanal, said, adding, it was one of the biggest seizures made by the NDCLEU in recent years.
