CPDCC discusses preparation of integrated report

KATHMANDU: After the major parties struck the 16-point agreement on constitution writing, the Constitutional Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee (CPDCC) has initiated a discussion on how to prepare an integrated report on the disputed issues of the constitution.

The CPDCC meeting held in Singha Durbar on Tuesday decided to prepare the integrated report by forging consensus on the disputed issues based on the 16-point agreement.

CPDCC Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai said the report will also include the views of some parties and the CA members that have different stances over   the issues.

The report would be submitted to the CA.

Meanwhile in today's meeting, the top leaders of major parties informed the CPDCC meeting about the recent progress -- the 16-point agreement.

Earlier, CA meeting had decided to send the CPDCC's report back to the CPDCC, asking it to submit an integrated report in two days.

The CPDCC meeting, however, witnessed objection from lawmakers from some political parties.

The Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Nepal, Sadbhawana Party and others said the 16-point agreement was objectionable, arguing that it failed to internalise the spirit of the interim constitution. They questioned why the demarcation and naming of the province was withheld.

On the occasion, Chairman Dr Bhattarai said if the consensus among all parties representing in the CA was not possible, utmost consensus would be forged, which ultimately would lead the CA to forward it to the constitution-drafting committee.

According to him, the constitution writing process has now entered the consensus frame rather than majority frame.
