UML accuses govt of misinterpreting constitution

Kathmandu, January 8

The CPN-UML today issued a press release accusing the government of misinterpreting the constitution and blocking formation of the new government.

“It is unbelievable that in a democratic system poll results are not announced and a new government is not formed. The way the government is misinterpreting the constitution and blocking the formation of a new government is against the spirit of the constitution,” the UML stated in its release.

The party accused the government of playing with the sentiments of the sovereign people who participated in the election with the hope of achieving the goals of stability and prosperity.

The UML claimed that the government was preparing to administer the oath of office and secrecy to the members of provincial assemblies in Kathmandu without naming provisional headquarters of provinces and appointing governors. “This shows that the government is partisan and against federalism,” adds the UML statement.

“We demand that the government make simultaneous decision to name provisional headquarters of the provinces and appoint governors,” the statement added.

The party also urged the Election Commission to announce poll results as per the previously published schedule.
