CPN-UML youth pickets CA
KATHMANDU: Youth Association Nepal, aligned to the ruling CPN-UML, picketed the Constituent Assembly office today.
Demanding the government and CA members to promulgate the new constitution within the specified time, they picketed the office, to mark the 100-day countdown to the promulgation of constitution, as part of their ‘Youth Pressure Programme for Peace and Constitution’.
The CA has been given the mandate to promulgate the new constitution by May 28. The youth wing handed over a memorandum to CA vice-chairperson Purna Kumari Subedi. Upon receiving the memorandum, she appreciated the pressure campaign and appealed all not to caste a shadow of doubt about the timely promulgation of the constitution.
Hundreds of cadres belonging to the youth wing formed a human chain and chanted slogans in support of “progressive constitution” as mandated by the Janaandolan II. They also displayed flags and giant model pens. Jhapat Rawal, vice-president, YAN said that the white flag and model pen was the emblem of peace and a tool to write the constitution, respectively.
“We’re gathering in front of the CA building to warn the CA members, political parties and government that they can’t make any excuse against the constitution,” he said, adding, delay in writing the constitution would pose threat to institutionalisation of democratic republic.
