Gang kills one

KATHMANDU: One person was killed and another injured in a gang fight between two groups at Kumarigal chowk, KMC-7 on Saturday.

According to Inspector Sudam Sijapati of the Gaushala ward police office, Roshan Ale Magar, 22, was stabbed to death at Kumarigal chowk when he tried to save Narayan Thapa, 21, from the clutches of the other gang led by Sunil Shrestha.

Ale died while undergoing treatment at TU Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj, whereas Thapa was discharged after preliminary treatment. "There used to be frequent fights between the two groups but the matter was never reported," Sijapati said.

The gang from Boudha, KMC-6, lead by Sunil confronted the rivals on Holi. "Had the locals informed us immediately, the incident could have been prevented," he said. He claimed to have identified the assailants but declined to disclose their names. — HNS

Cops beaten up

KATHMANDU: Two Assistant Sub-inspectors of Police have been severely beaten up by the staff and owner of a restaurant at Kamalpokhari on Saturday.

Sharan Bikram Shah and Dambar Bikram Bam from the police headquarters had gone to the Mac Dowell restaurant at Kamalpokhari chowk and got intoxicated. A confrontation ensued after they misbehaved with the waitresses. The staff beat up the cops who are undergoing treatment at Birendra Police Hospital. Shah is in critical condition. The Durbar Marg police office has taken the owner and four employees into custody. — HNS
