KATHMANDU, JANUARY 31

Co-chairs of the Dahal-Nepal faction of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) are leading yet another demonstration in the capital city, today.

Former prime ministers and NCP co-chairs Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal are carrying out a sit-in protest in Maitighar. Other top leaders participating in the protest are Ashtalakshmi Shakya, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Pampha Bhusal, among others.

Holding the party flags, party leaders and cadres belonging to Dahal-Nepal faction of the ruling party have given continuation to their series of protest against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's move to dismantle the House of Representatives (HoR).

Prime Minister Oli, also chairperson of the other NCP faction, decided to dissolve the Lower House of the federal parliament on December 20. His recommendation was easily approved by the President causing much confusion within the political sphere of the nation as well as among the general public. PM Oli's move also led to a split in his own party.

Meanwhile, mid-term elections were also announced for April-May 2021.

These developments led the dissenting Dahal-Nepal group, among others, to hit the streets in protest. They are of the demand that the parliament be reinstated and mid-terms polls cancelled.
