Dalits doubt anti-untouchability move
Kathmandu, June 5:
Dalit leaders have raised doubts over the implementation of the declaration of the House of Representatives that abolished untouchability in the country.
“A similar declaration was made by the then Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba around five years ago. However, it was never implemented,” said a senior Dalit activist, Padma Lal Biswokarma.
Newly elected president of the Dalit Liberation Society (DLS), Nepal Biswokarma, said the move was incomplete. The house has not talked about how it would implement the plan, he said. Journalist and Dalit activist Binod Pahadi said there is no meaning in repeatedly declaring the same thing again and again when it cannot be implemented.
