Kathmandu, February 8:

The District Administration Office (DAO) of Kathmandu has begun providing prompt services to the public.

“We have begun various measures to ensure that people get prompt service,” said assistant Chief District Officer Tara Nath Gautam. “Supervision and monitoring has begun.”

“We don’t take more than two hours for any work for which all relevant paperwork has been done. And for those that need some additional paperwork, we do those within the same day that the application is received,” said Gautam.

Mukunda Rupakheti of Naxal was there to get his son’s citizenship. Though he praised the DAO’s efforts, said the officers would work more efficiently if they were really committed to their duty. According to him, the officers keep loitering in one way or the other.

It took some five hours to get his work done.

Many people are visiting the DAO for permission to organise programmes as various rights of the people have been curbed after the imposition of the state of emergency.

A member of Dhorpatan Club, Gyanendra Gurung, was there to find out whether the DAO had any restrictions on organising a picnic. Gautam said though one needs permission to hold seminars and workshops, the DAO had not yet been approached for permission to hold such fun-filled programmes. He later told Gurung to ahead with the picnics as there was no provision which needed a written permission for such programmes.

The DAO issues a written permission to organisers of any function saying that the organiser should bear the responsibility for any untoward happening that could occur during the said function.
