Minister for Defence Minendra Rijal handed his resignation to the Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, today.
Minister Rijal put in his paper at the PM's office in Singha Durbar.
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba had assigned him the portfolio on October 8.
Following the preliminary results of the election of General-Secretary during the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress, Rijal had announced his resignation earlier today. "I have decided to resign from the post of Defense Minister in view of the message clearly received from the initial results of the post general-secretary, I contested for which in the 14th General Convention of Nepali Congress. As soon as the final result is received, I will submit my resignation before the Honorable Prime Minister," the defence minister wrote on his social media profile.
Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma, have been chosen general secretaries of the party while Rijal received 809 votes and came in fifth place in the race.
