Detainee escapes from DoI custody

Kathmandu, August 18:

Thirty-three-year-old Chinese national, Siren Nambu, ran away from the custody of the Department of Immigration (DoI) in Kathmandu on Wednesday night, immigration officials said today.

An official at the DoI said Nambu, who hailed from Yuana in China, was actually caught in India after Indian officials suspected him of holding a fake passport.

Nambu had allegedly gone to India from Nepal with a fake passport in the guise of Roshan Dawa.

The Indian officials sent him back to Nepal last Tuesday.

“On Wednesday, we took permission from the Kathmandu District Court to put him in custody for seven days for investigation. But, he fled from the custody the same night,” the official said.

He said that he beat up Ramsharan Rao, peon of the office, stole the key from him and fled.

Director of the Department of Immigration, Nabin Ghimire, said he would probe the case.

He also said that the account of his escape was hard to believe.
