Deuba, Paudel file candidacies for Nepali Congress PP leader

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress heavyweights Sher Bahadur Deuba and Ram Chandra Paudel on Tuesday filed nominations for its parliamentary party leader.

Lawmakers representing the oldest political party will cast their votes to elect the new leader on Wednesday.

The post is vacant since demise of the then party President and PP leader Sushil Koirala on February 9.

Lawmaker Farmullah Mansoor proposed Deuba for the post while Padma Narayan Chaudhary, who was in the Paudel-led camp till the party convention in March, seconded it.

In Paudel's nomination, lawmaker Prakash Man Singh has signed as the proposer while party's General Secretary Shashanka Koirala has seconded the proposal.

Deuba had defeated Paudel in the party presidential election in early March.

Meanwhile, the parliamentary party would hold elections for other positions on Friday.
