Doc charged with illegally amassing property

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority today filed a case against Dr Keshav Raj Bhurtel, former medical superintendent at the Bharatpur Hospital, at the Special Court for illegally amassing property and embezzling funds.
According to the anti-graft body, he had constructed a substandard building of the hospital in cahoots with contractors, bought shares worth Rs 6.7 million of Chitwan Medical College, rented out a land of the college, charged higher for uterus prolapse surgery in Maula Kalika Hospital, of which is a shareholder, and owning movable and immovable property in Kathmandu, Nawalparasi and Chitwan.
The CIAA has sought to recover Rs 26.3 million from Bhurtel. Rukmani, his wife, has also been made a defendant in the case.
