KATHMANDU: The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police on Sunday presented 36 doctors, arrested on charge of using fake academic credentials under the Operation Quack, at the Kathmandu District Court seeking remand for further investigation.

The Court remanded them to custody for five days for further investigation, SP Dibesh Lohani of the CIB told THT Online.

Earlier, police had arrested them from 10 districts of the nation on Friday.

The suspects include six women.

Lohani said the CIB would try to complete the investigations within next five days. "If not, we will go to the Court again and seek remand for the second time," he added.

Though all of the arrestees were presented before the Kathmandu District Court today, the individual cases would be transferred to the respective districts once the cases would be filed, he clarified.

The CIB had launched the Operation Quack some months ago to crack down on medical professionals who had allegedly obtained medical degrees and Nepal Medical Council licences by using fake academic credentials.

The Nepal Medical Council and the Higher Secondary Education Board have been assisting police to carry out the operations.
