Dogs get rabies shots on Kukur Tihar
Kathmandu, October 31:
Every dog has its day. And, every dog gets to have its rabies shots too. Some 30 dogs received vaccines and health check-up besides biscuits and the yum-yummy chewable bones.
Today was an auspicious day for all Hindus who worship dogs for their contribution and loyalty to the society.
Some seven stray dogs received rabies vaccine as well as health check-up on the occasion of Kukur Tihar — a day for dogs when people provide them delicacies and worship them for their contribution to society. It was the joint effort of animalnepal.org and Mobile Vet Clinic in coordination with Jawalakhel Youth Club, Lalitpur District Livestock Service Office and Lalitpur Bishal Agrovet. Another 30 dogs will get their rabies vaccination next week.
According to Dr Bal Ram Thapa, two stray dogs will undergo spaying in an attempt to control number of such dogs. Dogs belonging to people from Sanepa, Nakkhu, Kumaripati, Pulchowk and Jawalakhel area received vaccination and health check-up.
“This is the first time we have vaccinated dogs in Lalitpur,” said Lucia De Vries, a Dutchwoman with animalnepal.org. “This is the most scientific solution to problems posed by the stray dogs,” she told this daily.
