Don’t be afraid to carry out good works, PM tells staff

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that no one should be afraid to carry out good works.

Inaugurating a training programme on development agreement implementation for district-level office heads organised by the Office of the Investment Board Nepal and Nepal Administrative Staff College here today, Prime Minister Oli urged the government employees to work without any fear.

He, however, expressed dissatisfaction over the trend of civil servants escaping work and then fearing high-ranking officials in the bureaucracy.

The PM said, "Local administration and investors should take the locals into confidence."

He also expressed concern over the obstruction by locals to large scale projects. He further said that all should work together for development and prosperity as the new Constitution has already been promulgated through the Constituent Assembly.

At the programme, Chief Secretary Somlal Subedi said the government had shortened the environmental impact assessment in order to expedite the development projects, and emphasised that bureaucracy must be social relations-oriented and development-friendly.

Investment Board Nepal CEO Radhesh Pant expressed the view that the local administration must work towards creating a feeling of ownership towards development projects among the people of the project-affected area.

Executive Director of Staff College Punya Prasad Neupane said the training would help make the local staff responsible and accountable.

The training will run until February 18. A total of 20 participants including chief district officers and local development officers, land revenue and forest officers and Nepal Electricity Authority heads of the Upper Karnali and Arun III hydropower project-affected districts including Achham, Dailekh, Sankhuwasabha and Surkhet are taking part in the training.
