Downpour lashes Valley

Kathmandu, August 9:

Downpour lashed the Kathmandu Valley this evening, causing panic among denizens. Many places in the capital were waterlogged.

Sub-Inspector of the Metropolitan Police Sector in Swoyambhu, Ganesh Chaudhary, said water entered many houses in Dallu Chautara. He said the police were informed that the heavy rain caused the collapse of an under-construction five-storey building in Ichangu Narayan.

The office of Metropolitan Police Circle Kalimati was also waterlogged. "We pressed all police personnel of the circle into service to give an outlet to two-feet deep pool of water," an officer at the police office said.

He said they swung into action after the rain subsided and opened the blocked drainage in the area. Soaltee Mode area was also waterlogged and water entered into at least six houses. Chaudhary said water entered the ground floor of some 50 houses in Chagal area of Tahachal. Police and locals were trying to open blocked drainage system.
