Visiting British Army Chief General Sir Patrick Sanders paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Purna Bahadur Khadka at Singha Durbar.
Minister Khadka welcomed him, expressing confidence in strengthening Nepal-UK ties.
He emphasized the longstanding bilateral relations extending to the people-to-people level, sharing values in democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.
Minister Khadka highlighted the significance of the Treaty of Friendship centenary celebration, solidifying ties. Recognizing the UK as a development partner, he urged addressing concerns of Gurkha armies retired before 1997 regarding perks and pensions.
DPM Khadka underscored military exchanges, mentioning Nepal's participation in the Cambrian patrol and commended the UK's support. General Sanders acknowledged Gurkha concerns and emphasized collaboration for international peace, affirming continued UK support despite economic challenges.
The meeting included Defence Ministry and Foreign Affairs officials, along with the British Ambassador. Later, Chief of the Army Staff Prabhu Ram Sharma and General Sanders discussed mutual ties and promoting relations between their armed forces, with the Nepali Army presenting a guard of honour. General Sanders is on a six-day visit to Nepal.
