Dr Govinda KC puts off hunger strike again

KATHMANDU: Senior orthopaedic surgeon at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital Dr Govinda KC said he had put off the fast-unto-death announced to begin today.

Dr KC said he put off the protest upon the request of some civil society leaders who urged him to provide some more time to the state "to conclude positive developments seen toward fulfilling our demands."

Earlier on February 8 also, Dr KC had put off the hunger strike for today citing the same reasons.

Dr KC has not mentioned when he would resume the fast-unto-death now.

He, however, warned that he might re-stage the strike anytime if the government seemed not paying attention toward fulfilling his demand.

Dr KC has been staging various protests demanding reforms in Nepal's medical education sector for last few years.
