KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 17

A car driver seen in a viral video assaulting a pedestrian in the middle of the road has been arrested by police.

The footage, which began circulating on social media earlier this morning, drew widespread criticism and prompted authorities to launch a search operation, leading to the suspect's arrest.

Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Chief, Senior Superintendent of Police Nawaraj Adhikari, said the individual has been identified as Paras Bam, 42, currently residing in Budhanilkantha Municipality–3.

According to SSP Adhikari, Bam has been handed over to the District Police Range, Kathmandu, for further legal proceedings. The video shows him stepping out of his vehicle at Narayan Gopal Chowk in Kathmandu and physically assaulting a pedestrian walking along the road.

The jeep bearing registration number Ba 3 Cha 1103 is seen in the footage, which was widely shared across various social media platforms.

Kathmandu Police Spokesperson Pawan Kumar Bhattarai informed that Bam was produced before the Kathmandu District Court on Monday and has been remanded to judicial custody for seven days for further investigation.
