Drug peddlers, arms dealers held

KATHMANDU: A special squad mobilised by the Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu, Hanumandhoka, arrested four persons in possession of weapons from the parking lot of Kathmandu Mall in Sundhara yesterday. The four persons were arrested with a 9 mm German pistol, two Italian pistols, four magazines and 36 rounds of ammunition. The squad had acted on a tip-off.

Those arrested have been identified as Arabin Raut, 22, of Dumariya VDC, Sarlahi, Kamal Adhikari, 21, of Makar VDC, Nawalparasi, Bishwo Nath Mahato, 21, of Khayarmara VDC, Mahottari and an Indian national, Sanjaya Raut, 37. A case has been lodged against the four in accordance with Arms and Ammunition Act-1963. SP Nawa Raj Silwal at the MPRK said they had arrested the culprits for their alleged involvement in supplying illegal weapons to businessmen, criminal groups and organisations affiliated to the political parties. “Investigation to unearth the ground reality is underway,” he said.

Meanwhile, a squad of Metropolitan Police Sector, Gaushala, arrested three persons, along with 778 grams of heroin from Sinamangal, Kathmandu, on Tuesday. Those arrested have been identified as Laxman Thapa, 22, of Sinamangal, Buddhilal Tamang, 21, of Lagarche, Sindhupalchowk and Laxman Thapa, 22, of Deurali VDC, Gorkha.
