Dutch citizen detained briefly
KATHMANDU: A Dutch national was detained briefly on Thursday morning when a police constable failed to comprehend what he was saying and could not explain the rules properly. The Dutch national was trying to enter the UN premises onboard a taxi.
According to Inspector Bhagya Ram Tamang, chief of the Metropolitan Police Sector Pulchowk, the police constable on duty, Pawan Sahani, and the Dutch national, Leonardus Aloisius Josephus, were engaged in a heated discussion for a while around 9 am, but in different languages.
“It was just a misunderstanding due to the language barrier,” said Inspector Tamang, requesting not to highlight the issue as the matter was resolved through mutual understanding later. Josephus was visiting the UN premises for his personal work.
