EC accords election symbols to parties for NA election

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has provided election symbols to 21 political parties for the election to the member of National Assembly.

Of the major parties, the CPN-UML has been allocated- Sun, the Nepali Congress-Tree, CPN Maoist Center- Hammer and Sickle inside a Circle, the Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal- A Hand carrying a Torch, and the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal- Umbrella, as their respective symbols.

Election to National Assembly has been scheduled for February 7 where eight persons from each province will be elected. The electoral college comprises of Chiefs and Deputy Chiefs of the rural municipalities and municipalities and the Province Assembly members.

The President will further nominate three more members to the 59-member National Assembly on government's recommendation.

The National Assembly is the Upper House of the bicameral federal parliament and the Lower House of parliament is the House of Representatives.
