EC evaluating local elections: Chief Commissioner Yadav
KATHMANDU: Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has said that the commission was evaluating its managerial and other kinds of works during the first and second round of local elections.
Speaking in a programme organised to make the preliminary report of election monitoring public in the Capital on Friday, Yadav said so.
The General Election Observation Committee (GEOC), National Election Observation Committee (NEOC) among other monitoring agencies, have prepared the preliminary report of these two elections.
Yadav added that the elections remained historical due to notable participation of people despite the various problems.
Chief Commissioner Yadav further expected cooperation and support for upcoming provincial and federal elections from all sides.
Yadav urged the government to fix the date of provincial election towards the last week of Nepali month Asoj and federal election in the first week of the Nepali month Mansir.
Yadav shared that Rs 5.54 billion was spent so far in the first and second rounds of elections, adding that the remaining three billion rupees allocated for the elections was sent back to the government.
The commission has clarified that the EC had not received any support and grants from foreigners in any topic under elections.
Speaking in the same programme GEOC chair Himalaya Shamsher Rana said that the election remained fair, free and peaceful despite normal disputes and clashs.
NEOC chair Surya Prasad Shrestha shared that the media had given good coverage to these local elections which was good.
The report has suggested making the election process and technology voter-friendly in the days ahead.
