KATHMANDU: Election Commissioner Sudhir Kumar Shah has said that the first phase of local level elections has cemented the foundation of democracy and republicanism.

Talking to RSS, EC Shah said that after completion of the provincial and federal elections, the constitution implementation process will complete its cycle.

He added that the commission was satisfied and happy with the completion of the first phase elections as it was concluded peacefully.

Shah further said that the Commission was saddened with some untoward incidents occurred in course of the elections.

In another note, he committed to strictly implement the election code of conduct in the second phase of local polls slated for June 14 as mixed responses were achieved regarding it in the first phase of elections.
