Education can empower women, says Dr Sharma

Education is the only means to empower women to make them capable of working for their development, Dr Shankar Sharma, vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC), said today. Therefore, both formal and non-formal mode of education are necessary

to make education accessible to all people in the country, he said at a programme organised by the Women Awareness Centre-Nepal to mark its 14th anniversary. The organisation has been working for community development, sustainable agricultural development and cooperatives. The government has announced scholarships for SLC graduates from 18 backward and remote districts to help achieve the goal of ‘Education for All’, Sharma added.

Prativa Subedi, president of WACN said: “The WACN has been working for disadvantaged rural women and has introduced various programmes to uplift their economic status.”
