KATHMANDU, JUNE 18

Minister for Education, Science and Technology Sumana Shrestha has reiterated her commitment to making the education sector free from party politics.

At a news conference organized by the Ministry to highlight the major milestones of her first 100 days in office, Minister Shrestha defended her stance, stating that political interference in education has adverse effects.

She explained that meritocracy has been the basis for university appointments, and reported that 825 teachers have relinquished their party memberships following her directive.

Minister Shrestha also mentioned that the Ministry received complaints against 45 teachers; clarifications were sought from 41, while four were cleared of charges.

Furthermore, she appealed for widespread support for quality education. "Since I took on this responsibility, the work has been driven by these aspirations. Results are gradually becoming evident, and teachers are beginning to understand our purpose and quit their political affiliations. I am committed to implementing this decision to the end," she added.
