Eight persons arrested for gambling at Mahjong Casino in Soaltee
KATHMANDU: Police have arrested six Nepali gamblers, along with the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Hotel Soaltee's Mahjong Casino, on the charge of illegal gambling.
A police team deployed from the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu took the eight persons involved under police custody on Tuesday night.
The arrested have been identified as CEO Om Karmacharya (42) of KMC-32, MD Binod Shrestha (45) of KMC-29, and gamblers Bikalpa Pokhrel (38) of Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-8 in Makawanpur, Shankhar Poudel (33) of Lalitpur Metropolitan City-4, Tenzing Melek (26) of Swayambhu in KMC-15, Ranjit Khadgi (22) of Bouddha in KMC, Arun Sedai (35) of Lalitpur Metropolitan City-4, and Sangey Pasang Thakuri (27) of Muktinath Rural Municipality-5 in Mustang.
The gamblers were caught red-handed, and the CEO and MD were caught in connection with encouraging and organising the gambling activities for Nepalis.
Meanwhile, further investigation into the incident is underway, according to police.
