Eight-year-old abducted kid found murdered in Mhepi

KATHMANDU: An 8-year-old boy who had gone missing since Tuesday has been found murdered in Mhepi in Kathmandu, today.

According to police, deceased body of Prayas Kunwar, son of a guest house owner at Gongabu, was found in a zebra-bag dumped near a bridge at Samakhusi River in Mhepi.

“We believe this is a kidnapping and murder case and have detained a suspect following preliminary investigation,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Hobindra Bogati said.

Law enforcement officers have detained driver Mahendra SK of Syangja for questioning. SK worked as a driver at Kunwar’s guest house in Gongabu where the latter was last seen.

Police personnel undertook a massive search operation after the minor went missing at 6:00 pm two days ago, the DSP said.

Kunwar was a first grader at Belmont International School, Samakhusi.

It has been learnt that SK who recently undertook the job kidnapped the kid in an act of personal vengeance as he was frequently scolded by Kunwar's father. However, police are yet to disclose information on motive behind the heinous crime.

Further investigation into the case is underway, informed police.

A similar case had transpired over three months ago when an 11-year-old boy was first kidnapped and eventually murdered in Bhaktapur. The kidnappers were killed in what the police are adamant to call an 'encounter'.
