Election quiz meant to attract youth to polls: EC

The Election Commission today said that its attention was drawn towards the concern expressed by political parties and other stakeholders over election quiz.
Issuing a press release, EC Spokesperson Navaraj Dhakal said the poll panel had organised election quiz to draw attention of youth population to the ongoing elections.
The election body issued a press release after the CPN-UML demanded action against EC Commissioner Ila Sharma and quiz master Rajesh Hamal for asking questions about NC candidates Gagan Kumar Thapa and Sajha Bibeksheel candidate Rabindra Mishra.
“Names of candidates were included in the quiz with bonafide intention in separate episodes, names of all leaders could not be included in a single episode,” read the release. The EC said that the quiz contest was divided in seven episodes and names of leaders of other parties were also incorporated in questions in other episodes.
According to the poll panel, names of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and UML leader Yogesh Bhattarai names were included in first episode.
Names of Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal leader Rajendra Mahato, NC candidate Arzu Deuba and UML candidate Navaraj Dhakal was included in the second episode. Similarly, names of NC candidate Gagan Kumar Thapa, Bishwa Prakash Sharma Sajha Bibeksheel candidate Rabindra Mishra’s names were included in third episode.
