End of monarchy inevitable: NSU

Kathmandu, June 26:

Pradip Poudel, president of Nepal Students Union (NSU), the student wing of the Nepali Congress, today said none of the student union’s member is on the side of monarchy.

“Since last three years we have been saying that monarchy and Loktantra cannot go together,” he said while addressing a function, organised by the Tribuvan University, Institute of Medicine unit of the Nepal Students’ Union, to felicitate the newly elected central committee members of the union today.

“End of monarchy is inevitable,” he said adding that Nepal’s monarchy is very much different to the one in the Britain and Japan. The monarchy in Britain and Japan are strengthening democracy in their respective countries but the Nepali monarch tries to sabotage Loktantra instead, he said.

He claimed that Nepali people have not time to fight with the monarch anymore. “We believe that Nepali Congress would take the lead towards a republican set- up,” he said adding Gyanendra and Paras would not leave their throne even if the provision of a baby king were placed.

He also criticised Prachanda claiming that he wanted to put on the crown of king Gyanendra and follow his path. “We don’t accept any form of autocracy.”

He also warned that the NC would lose in the Constituent Assembly polls if it failed to clarify the agendas of the party to the people.
