‘Ensure rights of differently-abled’

Kathmandu, February 25

All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union–Revolutionary, student wing of Unified CPN-Maoist, today submitted a three-point memorandum to Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar demanding that the government ensure the rights of the differently-abled people.

The Differently-abled Students Department of ANNISU-R demanded that the government approve amendments to the Differently-abled Protection and Welfare Act, which has already been tabled in the Parliament.

The letter of memorandum signed by Narayan Acharya, chief of the DSD, was handed over to the Speaker by ANNISU-R chairman Ramesh Malla.

The memo states that the act was amended and sent to the Parliament as Bill on Differently-abled Rights Act-2072. The memorandum also demands amendment to around

200 acts to ensure the rights of the differently-abled people.

Malla also demanded that the government ensure disabled-friendly reconstruction of schools that were destroyed or damaged in the earthquakes last year.
