KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 24
Entrepreneurship is not just about large-scale investments; it requires small steps, confidence, and perseverance to build a sustainable business, experts emphasized at the MediaTalk Series XXXVII held at St. Xavier's College on Sunday. The panel discussion featured industry leaders who shared insights on the challenges and opportunities in entrepreneurship, particularly in Nepal.
Jagannath Maharjan, Managing Director of Khajurico, Nepal, encouraged aspiring entrepreneurs to start small with a long-term vision. Sharing his own journey, he stated,"I also started a small business from my own house. Even the flours were scarce, but I didn't give up, though the sales stood low. I didn't give up; I had that determination to take forward my business. For new entrepreneurs, I also would say the same: don't give up. There is a difference between the theoretical knowledge that is acquired in the course of studies and that exists in the practical phase."

Maharjan also pointed out Nepal's lack of startup-friendly policies. "The Nepal Rastra Bank doesn't have a clear policy about investment in the startup. One who has to start a business must have a mortgage despite having the clear concept and proposal to start a business." He further emphasized the importance of trust in entrepreneurship, stating that businesses thrive on the trust between producers and consumers, as well as self-confidence in the entrepreneur.
Bindra Kachhapati Pradhan, one of Nepal's pioneering female interior designers, echoed the importance of confidence."If you don't have enough funds to start working on your own, you can work somewhere else to save some money and earn experience. Till then, you also need to work on your confidence and use it for the betterment of your business."
Sandeep Shrestha, Founder of Sustainability Solutions, highlighted the intangible aspects of entrepreneurship, emphasizing the importance of brand image.

Speaking at the event, Fr. Dr. Augustine Thomas, S.J., Principal at St. Xavier's College, Maitighar, encouraged students to embrace entrepreneurship as a force for positive change. "Great entrepreneurs are more than just dreamers. This MediaTalk Series aims to trigger young minds to lead with purpose and innovation. Through this series, we invite our students to embrace entrepreneurship as a force for positive change. May this Media Talk series inspire our students to think boldly, act wisely, and transform every challenge into opportunity."
Chun Bahadur Gurung, Faculty Coordinator of the MediaTalk Series, described the event as an out-of-classroom learning initiative that has been running since 2019, inviting both national and international experts. "This edition of the MediaTalk Series focused on academic discourse, emphasizing the significance of entrepreneurship in fostering job creations rather than job seekers," he remarked.
