KATHMANDU, MAY 23

Everest Alliance Nepal, a social enterprise, is set to host the first ever Everest Summiteers Summit 2025 on May 27, 2025 at The Soaltee, Kathmandu.

According to Sudarshan Nepal, president of Everest Alliance Nepal, the historic event will bring together national and international Everest climbers from over 15 countries including Nepal. "Through the event, we aim to bring together all stakeholders concerned including mountaineering experts, policy makers, conservationists, tourism stakeholders, as well as local people from the Himalayan region on a single platform. The event will focus on crucial issues surrounding sustainability, mountaineering practices, climate change and the involvement of youth in preserving our mountains," he added.

So far, more than 200 climbers have registered to participate, and 15 speakers will present their ideas at the conference.

Home to the world's highest peak, Sagarmatha also known as Mount Everest, Nepal's mountains are not only natural treasures but also a major pillar of tourism and economy, Nepal asserted.

As per the organisers, the summit is an important initiative to establish Nepal as a safe and secure mountaineering destination, promote responsible mountaineering practices, and strengthen international cooperation.

As per Aju Sitaula, chief officiating officer of Everest Alliance Nepal, major attractions of the conference include panel discussions on the challenges of mountaineering, high-altitude climbing strategies, and the impact of climate change in the Himalayas.

"The summit will also honor personalities, successful climbers, Sherpas, and those who have made special contributions to mountain conservation," she said.

Tableaus and exhibitions reflecting the unique Himalayan cultural heritage, paintings, and mountain lifestyle will also be showcased.

Through a special collaboration with Dolpa, Khumbu, and Myagdi rural municipalities and the Federation of Nepali Handicrafts Association, an agreement has been reached to showcase local handicrafts, as well as art and culture, ethnic costumes, and traditional Himalayan materials in the exhibition.

Similarly, in a special moment of the program, Kanchha Sherpa, a living member of the first successful 1953 British Everest Expedition, will be honored with the 'Lifetime Achievement Award'. This award, which honors the contribution of the mountaineering field, is expected to inspire the new generation.

The conference has also given special priority to the voice of conservation. For the environmental balance and sustainable future of the Himalayan region, special cooperation and support has been received from international and national conservation organizations such as ICIMOD, IUCN, WWF, ZSL and NTNC. A special presentation and panel discussions from them will be an important part of this conference focused on environmental conservation and sustainable development of the Himalayan region.
