KATHMANDU, MAY 15
Mt Everest recorded first death of the season as climber from Philippines died at Camp IV last night.
According to Bodhraj Bhandari, Managing Director at Snowy Horizon Treks, 45-year-old Philipp II Santiago breathed his last at Camp IV while preparing for the summit push last night. the climber was part of the Mountaineering Association of Krishnanagar- Snowy Everest Expedition 2025.
Philipp who reached Camp IV late in the night died, Bhandari informed. Other members of the team were on the way to summit this morning, he added. The cause of his death is still unknown.
Efforts were underway to bring his body to the base camp, Bhandari informed.
This is the season's first death of foreign climbers on Mt Everest, according to the Department of Tourism.
Earlier, two Sherpa support staff, who were taken ill at the Everest base camp, died at HAMS Hospital after they were brought for treatment.
