KATHMANDU, MAY 14
Legendary mountaineer Sanu Sherpa among 18 climbers today scaled the world's highest peak as more climbers attempting to reach the Everest summit this spring season.
According to Lakpa Sherpa, Managing Director and Expedition Leader of 8K Expeditions, at least 18 climbers from his company stood atop Mt Everest this morning.
Record-holding climber Sanu Sherpa who is the first person to complete double 14 peaks above 8,000m scaled Mt Everest along with the 8K's Alpomania team, according to Sherpa.
Ukrainian climber Valentyn Sypavin reached the summit point marking his 7th ascent on Mt Everest while Viacheslav Kalashnykov, Viacheslav Kryvosheia, Nina Aleksieieva, Lurii Kostiukevych and Marharyta Diachenko from Ukraine scaled Mt Wverest at around 8:00am, Lakpa, who is now at the base camp, said.
Similarly, Phurba Sherpa, Lakpa Ongjuk Sherpa, Pasang Sherpa, Dawa Tenzi Sherpa, Mingma Tenzi Sherpa and Nurbu Sherpa from the same team also stood atop the world's highest peak, according to Sherpa.
IFMGA guide from Czech Republic Roman Kozelka and Milan Schagerer along with Nawang Sherpa, Tashi Gyalzen Sherpa and Lakpa Nurbu Sherpa from 8K Expeditions scaled Everest at around 6:30am, Pemba Sherpa, Chairman at 8K Expeditions, said.
Tashi Gyalzen Sherpa, who aims to climb Mt Everest four times in a single season made second summit of the season, Pemba said.
"Earlier, Tashi Gyalzen scaled Everest being part of the rope-fixing team on May 9," he added. All climbers are now descending safely to lower camps. "Summit bid is still underway as more climbers from other expeditions are heading towards summit point," he said, adding that today's summit window was quite fair.
