Ex-DSP involved in Jamim Shah's murder plot held after five years
KATHMANDU: Former police officer Jagadish Chand, who was found to be supporting the murderers of media baron Jamim Shah in 2010, has been arrested by the Metropolitan Police Crime Division from Kathmandu after five years.
Two motorcycle-borne assailants had fatally shot Shah, the operator of Space Time Network, at Lazimpat on February 7, 2010.
In its report, a judicial probe panel, led by former judge Govinda Prasad Parajuli, observed that Indian underground racketeers, who were involved in Shah's murder, were helped by Sub-Inspector Chhetri and former DSP Jagadish Chand among others to hatch the plot and execute it.
Chand has been considered an accomplice in the high-profile murder.
A few weeks after the murder, Chand had fled to India preemptively to avoid his arrest.
The two Indian assailants had also succeeded in fleeing Nepal, while five other Nepali accomplices including SI Chhetri were nabbed by police.
Interpol had issued a red corner notice against him.
Chand, now 46, originally hails from Baitadi district and resides in Baneshwar of Kathmandu. He was arrested from his Baneshwar-based residence yesterday.
Chand, who earlier used to sport moustache, has now changed his appearance with his facial hair shaved.
