With over five decades of experience in international journalism in different capacities (editor, photographer, publisher, storyteller), Barned Toet, a publisher and journalist from the Netherlands, highlighted the decline of intellectuals when journalists fail to engage in thought-provoking writing and research-based reporting rooted in societal inequalities.
Toet, who began his journalistic career at Holland's bestselling rock magazine (Oor), has contributed to media in more than twenty countries, such as The Face, BBC World Magazine, Holland Herald, Playboy, and the Sunday Morning Post. He was invited to deliver a special session at St. Xaviers' College, on Monday.
As the Editor-in-Chief of NEPALCONNECT, a platform that connects two worlds together-foreigners, who are attached to Nepal and the Nepali diaspora, who wonder how to interact with it-said: "Building a special bond with the targeted audience requires rigorous research."
"I am honored to have had a chance to welcome Mr. Berand Toet, for a special interactive session with the Journalism students today", said Chun Bahadur Gurung, the Lead of the Faculty of Journalism at. St. Xavier's College. "Mr. Toet's session sensitized students and rookie reporters in exploring strategies to build a connection with their audience", Gurung added. The event commenced following a brief greet-and-meet session with Fr. Dr. Boby Joseph, S.J. the director of Loyola Campus.
