Faith leaders vow to eradicate ill practices

Faith leaders of various religions have pledged to work together in order to eradicate ill practices from society.
Sujan Karki, a Christian priest, said no religion in the world promoted ill practices. Speaking at a programme organised today by Child Workers in Nepal, he said, “The bible does not allow child marriage.”
Likewise, Ram Chandra Bhandari, a Hindu priest said marriageable age for a girl is 24 years and the Hindu religion did not approve of child marriage,” he said.
Speaking at the programme, Mohna Ansari, spokesperson at National Human Rights Commission, said all religious and spiritual leaders should unite to fight against ill-practices and superstitious beliefs prevalent in society.
She said, “Spiritual leaders should join hands with the local government to make and implement laws against such practices.”
“Faith leaders can help spread awareness against child marriage, violence, human rights violation, and corruption,” said Kiran Rupakheti, programme director at the National Planning Commission.
