Fake policeman held for fraud

KATHMANDU: Police on Thursday arrested a youth for his alleged involvement in defrauding various persons, mostly women, claiming himself to be a Nepal Police staffer.

Gopi Krishna Khatiwada (26), a permanent resident of Sindhukot-6 of Sindhupalchok district and currently residing in Mulpani of Kathmandu, was arrested by a team deployed from the Metropolitan Crime Division today.

Police said he would pose himself as a crime investigation staffer and cheat people into paying huge sums of money with assurances of police jobs.

He had been involving in the fraudulent activity for a long time.

Recently, he had swindled one Binod Raj Ghimire of Rs 150,000 with the similar promise, according to the MCD.

At least six other women were cheated by him, it added.

Meanwhile, the suspect has been sent to the Metropolitan Police Range in Teku for further investigation and action.
