Feltman calls on Koirala

KATHMANDU: United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's special envoy, UN Under Secretary General Jeffrey D Feltman, on Saturday called on Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala.

According to Koirala's aide Prakash Adhikari, the duo discussed socio-economic and political developments of the nation.

On the occasion, former Prime Minister Koirala informed the senior UN official that Nepal was heading toward stability, peace and development after ending the long political transition.

Feltman in response said he expected a significant role of Nepali Congress party in resolving the current Tarai unrest as it was the largest political party with a strong support from the Madhes region.

Koirala told Feltman that he was hopeful about the resolution after the Constitution Amendment Bill would be endorsed from the Parliament, according to Adhikari.

The top UN political officer was also optimistic that the amendment would be able to appease all protesters leading the nation toward sustainable peace and political stability, Adhikari said in a statement after the meeting.
