Final rites of senior journo Gurubacharya performed

Kathmandu, November 23

The last rites of senior journalist Binaya Gurubacharya were performed today at Pashupati Aryaghat. His body was cremated in an electric crematorium.

Gurubacharya, who passed way at the age of 82 yesterday, had practised journalism for over 50 years. He is considered a pioneer of journalism in English medium.

He worked for 38 years as a country representative for Associated Press (AP), a New York-based non-profit news media company. He had joined the AP in 1960.

Gurubacharya is also a founding member of Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists. He served as its president for two years in the 1990s. Lately, He worked as correspondent for Mainichi Shimbun, a Japan-based daily until 2014.

He is survived by his spouse Saroj Gurubacharya, a daughter and a son. Gurubacharya, according to

his son Binaj, breathed his last yesterday morning at his home at Thapathali.

He had been suffering from Parkinson’s disease for the past few years.
