KATHMANDU: Property worth around Rs 1.78 million was reduces to ashes when a fire broke out at the rented room of Panche Bahadur Rai (33) in Mulpani of Kageshwori Manohara Municipality-8 on Tuesday.

Police said that Rs 25,000 in cash and various gold and silver ornaments among other valuable goods were destroyed in the fire.

The reason behind the fire was electric short circuit, police said.

Police said that the fire was taken under control with the help of locals backed by a fire engine.

Further investigation into the incident is underway, police said.
